Warsash in 2 weeks and more

Sorry I've not been very attentive here, not that anyone is reading it I am sure, but anyway. I have recieved my joining instructions for Warsash Maritime Academy, I arrive there on Sunday the 10th, between 2 and 6, and then the course begins the next day. I went to Miller Rayner tailors in Southampton on Friday to get my College uniform.
This is the stuff we wear when doing practical work at college (I think???)

And this is the college Uniform

Been trying to fit all my stuff into a massive suitcase we got on e-bay, but it doesn't fit so I'll have to use 2 suitcases.
I've spoken to a few other chaps on msn who are off to Warsash in Sept, they are mostly working for Cruise companies, not met any other Clyde marine cadets yet (thats the company who are sponsoring me). I wont find out exactly which company is sponsoring me untill sometime after I start college I think (Clyde Marine only act as a sort of agent for other shipping companies and will allocate me a company for sponsorship), So I am rather nervous about that. I can not decide if I want a cruise company or not, I think it would be an easier life, but I'm not sure I really want an easier life. It may be more fun on the tankers or the container ships.

Rather nervous well that's perfectly ok indeed I would suggest it is wise to be a bit apprehensive and nervous.
To me thats a good sign.
As for the fun - well it can be that too.
One thing for sure, it will be a challenge and an adventure.
It may not turn out the way you would like - but that can be said about anything I suppose.
Certainly give it a go, just be carefull where they place you - thats all.
There's both good and bad out there.
It's very much a way of life - not just a job.

Hey - Good Lookin.
Thats smart.
Suitcases:- If you are flying to join ship or repatriate - better get the packing business right.
Baggage restrictions 15 Kg or maybe 30Kg for seafarers - Cant remember off hand.
Excess baggage is expensive - very expensive.

Packing.

Baggage weight restictions:-

Hope that offshore ship management ship which you may be going to, has some suitable "study" books on board. You'll fall behind a bit if it don't.
You can't take many books with you - if you are flying that is.
Some of these offshore ship management ships - have absolutley nothing at all - believe it or not.
And that can even extend to charts.
However if the master is really experienced in the intended area of trading - he might just remember the courses to follow (Malacca/Singapore Straits transit - for example) - but maybe he won't.

So get into the habit of keeping your own records - they may come in handy one day.

Things to pack.
1. Pocket Dictionary.

If Chevron your ship will probably be 110Volt
not 220 volt.
Step up transformer may be required ?
